FOUR tries from Australian stand-off Dennis Moran was the highlight as Widnes Vikings cruised to a 78-10 victory over Normanton Knights at Halton Stadium on Sunday.
Moran and his colleagues were too hot to handle for the Yorkshire amateur side as Widnes secured their place in round four of the Carnegie Challenge Cup, racking up fourteen tries in the process.
Andy Kirk, Dean Gaskell, Ian Webster and Mark Smith each helped themselves to a brace while second row pairing Oliver Wilkes and Paul Noone grabbed a try apiece.
Centre Mick Nanyn finished the afternoon with eleven successful conversions to his name.
Moran's hat-trick came from a trademark interception after 61 minutes and Nanyn's conversion made it 72-0.
However, the visitors steeled themselves and used an intelligent kicking game to finally put some pressure on the Widnes line.
It didn't stop Moran crossing for his fourth try after a fine one-two with Kirk, but it did bring some reward in terms of late scores to winger Andrew Greaves and scrum-half Michael Hill.
