TRAFFORD council has defended forking out a four-figure sum to revamp its image.

The local authority paid £3,750 to Unique Creative Communications (UCC) for rebranding work, which included reviewing the logo and the use of the coat of arms.

Trafford-based UCC pointed out the new look will be applied to a full range of materials ranging from stationery, print items, publicity materials, vehicle livery, council uniforms and signage.

Defending the rebrand', Councillor Michael Whetton said: "This was a cost effective move and there is no money being thrown away.

"This is not a corporate makeover - the new designs are being introduced only as new stock is required to avoid waste. For example, we will not repaint old vehicles but any new vehicles will receive the new treatment.

"It is 18 years since we have changed the logo and, in that time, a great many variations have come about as so many different people used it. Refreshing the logo is all about standardization.

"Some of the cost lies in the production of a manual of guidelines for the usage of the logo.

"The new logo forms part of maintaining the council's fresh corporate image and represents the council's commitment to continual improvement and modernisation."

UCC's account director, John Kane, said: "We are always pleased to work on corporate identity projects. The resulting design will often be utilised for years to come, and whether it is a new identity or a revision, it does much to bring an organisation's employees together. For us, it is rewarding to see it all around you and to be able to say we helped make it happen."

Why change it now, it is a waste of money. What was wrong with the old one, and may I ask what other delights they are preparing.

Dead right. Also, they are changing the date that you pay monthly for your council tax, it is at present the 15th of the month, this is changing to the 1st, putting people 2 weeks behind and in arrears. It is going to cost a fortune in first class post to everyone in Trafford informing them of the chage. I do beleive this is a cost cutting venture. What is to come next, I dread to think.

It's a pity this spendthrift Council can't uphold the Boroughs motto, "Hold fast that which is good". There is absolutely no need to change the design.

They charged near enough £4k to put a logo into Microsoft Publisher and change the font on the text? Wow I wish I was UCC's managing director...

Another example of Trafford being in touch with the local people. Get your priorities right. Sometimes I wish for the old Atrincham borough again.

Don't HOLD FAST onto this lot, the only thing they're GOOD at is wasting our hard earned money on jolly jaunts and daft ideas.

The comments are interesting but it may help to note that Trafford spends about £350million in total each year. To spend £3750 just once after 18 years to improve the use of the logo and ultimately save money on vehicle logo transfers is prudent use of taxpayers funds. And I speak as a taxpayer as well as a councillor.

To get some perspective here. A re-branding of a large organisation can cost a considerable amount yet here we have just over £3000. By having only one logo for all paperwork and not having a multitude of slightly different ones will mean that a better price can be obtained by ordering larger amounts of a single logo'd paper. This could save many times the £3000 year on year by getting better prices from the printers. Basic business common sense. The Councillor now also identifies it will save money on vehicle logo's means its the best use of public money. About time it was sorted I say. Well done.

Classic use of politician spin here. The council is not saving money on vehicle logo transfers, its just not changing the logo until it cnages the van. to claim a cost saver is disingenous

Another example of this wasteful council. What they have done could have been done in house and saved the £3750.00. I want the council to explain why they did not do this. But why should they care it is our money they are wasting not theirs.

These consultants must be laughing all the way to the bank at all the clueless organisations throwing money their way for nothing. If the council had held a competition amongst schoolkids in the borough they'd have got something much better for much less.
