Students' movie to premiere at BAFTA

STUDENTS from South Cheshire College have struck gold with a film set to premiere at BAFTA.

Treasure of Albion' has been hailed as an action-packed adventure film and will be screened at the BAFTA's (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) headquarters in Piccadilly, London on 7 March.

Over 250 students from six colleges in the North West collaborated to make the British Youth Academy feature film over the past six months.

Treasure of Albion' features an epic treasure hunt which brings two rival teams of youngsters head to head in a race against each other, time and an evil prospector who is intent on stealing the riches of England's Kings.

Stars from the world of showbiz have been recruited to act in the motion picture, including Todd Carty who is famous for his roles as Tucker Jenkins in Grange Hill and Mark Fowler in Eastenders, Red Dwarf's Norman Lovett, comedian Phil Cool, West End actress Barbara King and Ray Loren who starred in Harry's Game in the 1980s.

Director Andrew Walkington said: "Treasure of Albion' has been a wonderful project from start to finish.

"Projects like this demonstrate the abundance of film-making and acting talent there is in the UK."

Filming took place at prestigious locations across the North West including Beeston Castle, Manchester Grammar School, Bispham Hall, St Peter's Chapel in Heysham, Burton Manor and Queen's Parlour Caves.

The project, which had an initial budget of £112,000 has been sponsored by United Co-operatives and supported by Aimhigher North West, Aimhigher Cheshire and Warrington and Excellence in Crewe.

It also received backing from The Children's Film and Television Foundation.

Mr Walkington added: "We will celebrate the film with a series of local screenings but going to BAFTA is a real coup for everyone involved."
