A REPORT into the town’s Labour party will not now be published until November, the Warrington Guardian understands.

National party bosses called for the probe earlier this year following what they described as a ‘series of internal incidents and complaints which have damaged the party and brought it into disrepute’.

It was originally predicted that the final report would be ready in September, but it now appears unlikely before the party’s National Executive Committee meets in October 28.

Until the report is published, no candidates are being confirmed for next year’s local elections.

Although the Warrington Guardian understands it has not stopped Helen Jones’ reselection as candidate for MP in Warrington North, which is likely to be confirmed soon.

The probe, which was ordered earlier this year, was carried out by Lord Kennedy,at the regional headquarters on Wilderspool Causeway in July and August when he meet party members and councillors.

Members were given 15 minute slots to speak at the hearing, but it is understood many overran their allocations.

In a letter to members sent in June, Iain McNicol, general secretary of the Labour party, said: “We hope that this investigation will be a constructive opportunity to provide the Labour party in Warrington with a fresh start.”

One source told the Warrington Guardian: “Everyone is waiting to hear what it says.

“Real change has to come out from this and from when the report is published.”
