STAFF at the Peace Centre will be hoping raising cash for veterans and victims of terrorism will prove to be a piece of cake with their latest fundraiser.

The Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation for Peace is encouraging businesses, schools and community groups across the town to join in by holding ‘Peace of Cake’ bake sales.

The Warrington Guardian will be supporting our charity of the year with a cake sale in our office on Bridge Street to coincide with the International Day of Peace in September and we are calling on readers to get involved too by hosting their own cake sales this summer.

Pam White, community fundraiser at the Peace Centre, said: “We are asking every aspiring baker, school, company and community group to get out their rolling pins and have a ‘Peace of Cake’ to raise funds for our vital work to support those affected by conflict.

“All we ask is that you pour bags of enthusiasm into your next bake and get together with friends, family or colleagues to raise some funds.”

The fundraiser, backed by BBC Great British Bake Off judge Paul Hollywood, has already seen a number of events in the town with the pastoral care team at St Philip’s Church, Westbrook raising the most amount so far collecting £848.50.

Editor Nicola Priest said: “We’re proud to support our charity of the year during a significant 12 months for both the Peace Centre and the Warrington Guardian.

“We’re looking forward to seeing pictures of bakers’ creations in the town raising cash for a worthy cause.”
