GOOD news for Warrington Anglers' Association members is a further trickle stocking of quality double-figure carp for Sandiway Lakes on Wednesday.

The fish are all of the famous Orchid strain and have not been artificially fed, so they should thrive on the intensive food larder in their new home.

The last fish we introduced from this source have done well and are packing on weight.

Some singles and lower doubles are also consigned for the 17 acre lake to hopefully invigorate existing coarse fish stocks and improve sport.

Our new website should be up and running in a few weeks so the pictures will be posted there, but in the meanwhile if you are interested they will be on view at our headquarters.

Our long term carp rearing project in partnership with Ineos Chlor on their secure reservoir at Weston is progressing well with staff members regularly feeding the fish with a balanced pellet diet.

Even more good news is that the company has kindly offered to clean up a badly silted area of the reservoir and further improve the habitat.

Moore Quarry is producing a few tench and bream, the latter to over 12lbs, but hot off the press is news of a 34 pounder from this increasingly popular fishery. Hopefully more details next week because if we get photos it could be worth more than £100 to the lucky captor.

Steve Lilford and his mate had a good session at Rixton Claypits with lots of skimmer bream and eight tench apiece to 7lbs which came after a change from maggot to bread flake or corn.

The place is currently lifting with bream which have obviously spawned and are eating any food put on their table.

High Legh fisheries provided plenty of action over the bank holiday weekend with mainly small rudd, tench and a few small carp. One angler fishing a small waggler set-up ended up with more than 40 fish taken on loose-fed maggot. Please note if there are any nesting birds near a peg consider it closed until they have hatched.

The sequel to last week's theft of our palisade fencing from Grey Mist Mere is that the property has now been recovered and thanks to our working party and the cooperation of the metal merchants it is now ready to be used to further secure this fishery. Don't forget, close and lock the gates at our fisheries or risk losing your membership.

Don't forget our fish of the month competition for April, which carries a prize of a box of Bait-Tech bait products and a Korda carp care kit. It's worth more than £100 so get those entries sent in.

For our junior members the Thursday summer series matches are on again tonight at Euclid Avenue and the minnows commence on May 22.

Let me have your catch reports on 01928 716238, fax 01928 713898 or e-mail frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk.

HQ Parker Street will be open as usual tommorrow, Friday, between 7pm and 9.30pm for subscriptions and new memberships.
