JIM Vince is back at Wincham Park less than a fortnight after he quit the club.

He agreed a new two-year deal with Albion this afternoon, bringing to an end a tumultuous ten days for the club that had seen first Vince then chairman Mike Worthington walk out.

"He was the supporters' overwhelming first choice," said acting chairman Mark Harris.

"Happily we've been able to combine what people want with what the club can afford."

On Friday he told the Guardian that an announcement on the club's next manager would come early next week.

But, after an intense round of talks with representatives from Witton's fan base yesterday, Saturday, he was able to guarantee the playing budget Vince feels he will need to make it third time lucky and take Albion to top spot in the UniBond Premier Division.

"It took us a bit longer than expected to come up with the right financial package," added Harris.

"Last season the fans were superb, complementing the cash provided by the club with consistent fundraising which was vital to our title challenge. "That commitment has been increased."

With that backing comes added pressure for the 40-year-old manager, who must manage supporters' expectations as well as their donations.

There is little doubt he, along with returning assistant Nigel Deeley, is up for the challenge.

Vince had been mooted for possible moves to Blue Square North duo Southport and Altrincham since his acrimonious exit following a fall out with Worthington but, after the pair sorted out who would be sitting on their bench next term, it put an end to the speculation.

Now he can concentrate on leading Witton to promotion after two successive second placed finishes.

Both were followed by failure in the play offs.

Vince's return comes as a welcome boost to the players, many of whom had a clause in their contract permitting them to switch to other clubs should he leave.

A number had agreed terms on new deals before Vince handed in his notice just hours after Albion's play off semi final defeat on penalties against Buxton.

Harris added: "All along this has been about maintaining continuity, and I'm delighted that we can now look forward once again.

"If we all work together as directors and supporters should, raising money and reducing costs wherever possible, we've got half a chance of achieving the success that every true Wittoner deserves."

The club has called an information meeting for Thursday, May 29 when a new commercial team, consisting of Alan Simpson and Samantha Raistrick, will be on hand to meet supporters.

Very bold move by witton to re-appoint JV, i hope for their sake that it pays off but historically it is never the same when managers or players for that matter return to thier clubs. That said JV only left for 10 days but i wonder whether they needed a complete change after losing out in promotion in the most bizzare way. The pressure is on and the fans who are clearly once again donating funds to the promotion push won't accept anything less. I admire those loyal fans who appear to be pledging £500 (according to witton message board)towards the JV promotion fund but I can't help thinking it may go hopelessly wrong, it seems bizarre that a promotion push is reliant on a few fans donations/fundraisin
g, what if promotion is achieved, will the pot need increasing for the higher level?! Against rising living costs fans will find it extra difficult next season to support their club each and every week, a few poor results and suddenly many clubs could be struggling to make ends meet, I accept that witton are desperate to get away from a decade in the 3rd rung of non-league but it may just go completely pear shaped - only time will tell!!

Will witton ever get out of this league with this man? How is a budget agreed with an acting chairman?????

This is an incredible situation. I can't believe that fan power has this much influence. What happens if they don't go up? Do they keep with JV? He's already bottled it twice. If he makes it third time (un)lucky then where do the fans stand?

It's almost as if he's untouchable in the eye's of some Wittoners. If he had actually achieved anything then I would agree with them. But he hasn't.

Also can you imagine the size of JV's ego now? He must be loving it, knowing he's the centre of attention, and he has that much power over the club.

They might as well bring him in as chairman!

The playing budget can't be any better now he is back, than is was last week.
We will never be able to match them across the canal for style or size of club so lets stop kidding ourselves.
There is only one team in Northwich who can justify the big time.
We have a poor ground and very poor support.
No way are we ready for anything better than we have now.

red gurkin, why not go across the canal then? You don't sound like a Wittoner to me.

Yes, we are obviously disappointed about missing out on promotion again, but Arnie questions what JV has achieved.

How about runners-up twice in the past 2 years and more than doubling the attendances by getting his team playing free-flowing attacking football.

Not too shabby I'd have thought.

As for red gurkin, he/she sounds a bit pickled to me and aren't Gherkins green? Ah yes, I thought so.

I see that Vics fan has a short memory. It is only a few weeks ago that the two clubs were destined for the same division next season! I don't see why his (or her) measure of success is that Witton didn't get out of the Unibond. Why not just be pleased that their own club pulled off a remarkable recovery and survived.
I've been a Witton fan since I was a kid, but I have no animousity towards Vics. I'd like nothing better than to see both clubs representing Northwich in the top tier of non-league football and playing meaningful derby matches twice a year. It could only be good for the town.

It was only a few weeks ago that Fulham were destined for the championship and in effect failure yet their season turned out to be a massive success. The same applies vics ie our season tuned out to be a massive success on the other hand wittons was a massive failure especially on the back of a similar ending last year. Football is all about winners and losers when it matters ie at the end of the campaign, no matter how well a team plays all season if the end result is failure then it has to be accepted, i cannot understand how JV has been re-instated after a failure and amazed that fans have clubbed together to finance his return, very bold and very dangerous should it all go pear shaped.
On the subject of gates ,witton have done well to double their gates albeit hepled by weymouth, cambridge,V
ics, fleetwood (twice) etc fans swelling the figure when games were postponed/different KO times etc. However have the gates really improved given the number of children that attend with free vouchers/tickets etc, I'm all for giving the kids free entry but it seems your increased attendances resulted in the club reducing the playing budget for next season (before the whip round started)! Put simply I doubt whether there was an average of much more than 300 who actually paid.
I hope for witton's sake that JV can produce the goods again, anything less than last season will result in the 200 or so paying fans that have been loyal to witton over the last 10 years seeing their club struggle. Time will tell.

So Mr Vince must think he's bigger than the Club, I understand he's gone again caliming ill health, but in reality he wasn't getting the money he wanted for himself, never mind the squad. So much for loyalty Mr Vince,
