NORTH Staffordshire Green Party is opposing what is claims are possible plans for a nuclear power station in the county.
"On March 26 the Secretary of State for Business and Enterprise outlined the Government's positive attitude to the development of more nuclear power stations in the UK," said Party spokesman Professor Andrew Dobson.
"One of the potential sites for a new nuclear power station is Rugeley in Staffordshire.
"The Green party calls for an end to nuclear power in the UK.
"It is expensive and dangerous, risking catastrophic accidents that could damage our health, environment and economy for generations.
"Some 20 per cent of our energy production is nuclear, and the Government has admitted cleaning up after the existing power stations is going to cost the tax payer £72 billion.
"The last thing Staffordshire needs is a nuclear power station.
"We are already being targeted as a place to burn a large proportion of the waste produced in the West Midlands.
"Staffordshire will be branded a dirty and dangerous place to live."
