York 1 Vics 1: opponent's view

COLIN Walker blasted his players' performance after they escaped with a point.

The Minstermen created next to nothing after Richard Brodie's early opener, which was cancelled out by Michael Byrne in the second half.

"We were shocking," he said after finally emerging from a locked changing room almost an hour after the final whistle.

"And lucky to get a point to be honest.

"I can only apologise to our supporters and promise I will do something about it so it will not happen again.

"The players have let themselves down, the staff down, the football club down and certainly the fans down."

Walker had called for City supporters to flock to Kit Kat Crescent for their remaining matches as he believed they still had an outside chance of making the play offs.

"I asked for our fans to keep coming to games, but that was absolutely dreadful.

"The players have got to accept criticism even if some don't do that very well. I'm man enough to take it on the chin and deserved every little bit I got at the end of the match, as did the players."

Indeed the home team were whistled off at the final whistle after hanging o against a resurgent Vics in the closing stages.

Former Vics midfielder Stuart Elliot was a particular target for the boo boys before he was taken off shortly after the restart.

Another former Northwich man, Simon Rusk, watched from the stands with former manager Neil Redfearn - now youth team coach at Kit Kat Crescent.

"Some of our players weren't at the races and it's up to us to find out why and do something about it," added Walker.

"The only positives were Richard Brodie was outstanding and we didn't get beaten. Sodje also worked hard, but the rest of them were totally unacceptable."
