Apollo up for award

THE APOLLO Cinema, in Altrincham, has been nominated for the award of 'Best New Cinema in the UK'.

The establishment will come up against the Vue Cinema in Cheltenham, Cineworld in Bury St Edmunds, and the Odeon in Chatham at the RAAM awards, to be held on February 6, at the Millennium hotel in London.

The awards are decided by an advisory board which represents all parts of the UK and Irish film distribution and exhibition industry.

"This is a fantastic achievement, not only for the design and build teams, but also for the management and staff at the site." said Apollo Cinema manager Nick McKiernan, who will attend the gala dinner at the awards ceremony.

This is a joke, how did this place get put up for an award when the Manager has no style, personality or manners. It reflects in some of the staff. The parking is scandalous and the riddiculous situation of having to sit in allocated seats when the place is empty is crazy. I stopped going because it just makes you angry

I have to say I expected the cinema, liek the rest of Altrincham to be full of children screaming and shouting and getting up to no good. It doesn't appear to be, although their strange policy of forcing you ti sit in whatever seats your tickets say on them is a little annoying for larger groups who might end up separated.

Price wise, it's an absolute rip off for what you get, a whole 35% more expensive than the cinemas in Manchester. However you're saving the hour on public transport and the £4 the return journey now costs on the Metrolink, so it all balences out.

When I've been it seemed very clean, and although I think it's not perfect (5/10 maybe) it is probably one of the best 'New Cinemas'.

Good luck Apollo, though the others are probably bigger cinemas.I regularly take the kids there, so handy to have a plush cinema without having to travel.

We always go there since our daughter had one of those birthday messages up on the screen. The staff are young and pleasant and it's always clean.

I disagree. I went when the cinema had been open 4-5 months, the popcorn was stale, the bar staff were eventually tracked down and when I asked for a Shandy I was looked at as if I was from out of space. When I explained what a Shandy was he asked if I wanted it with Strongbow or Fosters!! Went into the cinema and the seats where filthy. On top of that you have to pay to park, where most other cinemas, the parking is free. I certainly wont be going back there.
