After a short battle against cancer, Anthony Wilson, the man who helped form the late 70's, 80's and early 90's music scene passed away at 6.05pm last night.

Wilson was a familiar face to anyone who switched on to regional television during the past 25 years, but more so to those who tuned in to the infamous Madchester scene, at which Wilson's club The Hacienda was at the forefront.

Having been involved in such seminal bands as Joy Division, and The Happy Mondays, Wilson left an indelible mark upon the UK's popular culture. Wilson and the Madchester scene was fondly reinvented in the 2002 film '24 hour party people' starring fellow Mancunian Steve Coogan
