Beyonce’s former collaborator Naughty Boy has said she poured “every raw emotion” into her tell-all album Lemonade.
The album hints at her husband Jay Z’s infidelities and has prompted wild speculation over the identity of who the woman in question – “Becky with the good hair” – could be.
Naughty Boy, who worked last year with Bey on her hit Runnin’ (Lose It All), said he knew then that the album was going to tell some shocking home truths.
The 31-year-old producer told The Mirror: “I spoke to her last year. She was going through the emotions that a woman goes through. It was every raw emotion and every happiness and every sadness. I knew that album was going to reflect that.”
He wouldn’t be drawn into speculating about who “Becky” is though, with Rita Ora and fashion designer Rachel Roy both publicly denying it’s them.
He said: “I try not to gossip about somebody else’s business. I’m not trying to read between the lines.”
Naughty Boy, real name Shahid Khan, said he plans to work with Beyonce again in future after the success of their collaboration, and isn’t upset that Runnin’ didn’t make it on to the Lemonade track list.
He said: “That album is a body of work. I’m sure we will work together again one day. Runnin’ is still getting played and people are still talking about it. My contribution is there.”
