Pineapple Express (Cert 15) DVD Review

Seth Rogen in Pineapple Express Seth Rogen in Pineapple Express

WHEN care-free Dale Denton (Seth Rogen) accidentally witnesses a drug lord execute a rival, the pot-smoking dude swaps his life in the slow lane for one in the fast.

For a half smoked-joint he leaves at the scene - a highly potent form of weed called Pineapple Express - means Dale is quickly identified and is forced on the run from the mob.

He’s joined by his partner in crime Saul (James Franco), and the pair quickly discover that there’s more to life than bumming around and smoking joints, largely because danger lurks around every corner now they are fugitives.

It’s actually the supporting cast her provide most of the film’s real laughs. Danny McBride is cast well as Red, Saul’s supplier, and one who bears the brunt of all of the violence.

Kevin Corrigan and Craig Robinson make fun henchmen, while Rosie Perez plays a corrupt police officer. Amber Heard also continues to make a big impression on Hollywood as Dale’s high school girlfriend Angie.

Pineapple Express is the work of Hollywood producer Judd Apatow, better known for Anchor Man, 40 Year Old Virgin and Step Brothers. But with this flick he moves into the black comedy stakes, and although it raises a smile, it’s not the same can of laughs as some of his previous works.
