A BURTONWOOD playwright's celebration of community and pub culture is returning to the north west after being showcased at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe last year.

Jimmy Fairhurst, artistic director at Not Too Tame Theatre Company, is bringing his play Early Doors to The Lowry in Salford Quays from today, Thursday, until Sunday.

It explores how the community aspect of pubs and other communal meeting places is fading.

The story sees a brother and sister reopening their family pub for the first time since their mother’s death.

Jimmy, a former Burtonwood Primary and St Aelred’s, Newton, pupil, is bringing Early Doors to The Lowry as part of a UK tour.

The production will see the theatre group present the play in pub settings across the country with no set, no stage and no stalls.

So join the regulars for tales of love, loss and laughter, live music and, you guessed it, a pub quiz in an uplifting celebration of community and pub culture.

Jimmy, whose theatre company is supported by Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke, said: "We want to see regular theatregoers laughing shoulder to shoulder with people who may be put off by the traditional, rigid theatre set-up.

"These amazing spaces were built to house and entertain large groups of people and we're using Early Doors to breathe life and public spirit directly into the heart of these communities."

So head on down to your local, grab a beer and nestle yourself among the regulars for a trip to the 'pub' with a difference.
