HARPER Lee’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ is returning to the stage.

Directed by Timothy Sheader and produced by Adam Spiegel and William Village, the play will bring to life the famous novel that has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide.

To Kill a Mockingbird is a story about racial injustice, honour and courage. Set in the south of America during the Great Depression of the 1930s, the story follows the siblings Jem and Scout and their father Atticus.

He is a lawyer, who is appointed to defend Tom Robinson, a black man who is accused of raping a young white woman.

Published in 1960, the novel is considered to be one of America’s classic pieces of literature.

As of 2013 the novel still sells more than 750,000 copies a year. The film ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ was released in 1962 and was nominated for numerous Academy Awards.

In the play, real life siblings Harry and Jemima Bennett play brother and sister Jem and Scout.

Jemima shares the role of Scout with Ava Potter and Rosie Boore, while Harry shares the role of Jem with Arthur Franks and Billy Price.

Daniel Betts plays Atticus, an accomplished stage actor who has previously starred in Skylight and The Winter’s Tale.

Christopher Akrill plays Boo Radley. Beginning his career as a dancer, he has worked with the Scottish and Northern Ballet and has appeared on screen in ITV’S Mr Selfridge.

Zackary Momoh plays Tom Robinson, who has recently appeared on stage at the National Theatre in From Morning to Midnight and was in Holby City.

Composer and musician for the play is Phil King, who has composed music for television, film and theatre. Many of his tracks have been played on BBC Radio Two.

The show will be at The Lowry in Salford Quays from Tuesday to Saturday.
