Vanessa's dash for brother

4:19pm Monday 23rd April 2007

A WOMAN from Sale will be making a dash for the finish line this May, during the Great Manchester Run, in aid of a charity close to her family.

Vanessa Wall, aged 23, plans to take on the 10km course through the city of Manchester in order to help raise money for Stockdale's; a charity caring for severely disabled children and adults.

She explained: "I recently moved back to Manchester, having been at university in Bath for the past few years and I found out about the Great Manchester Run. I thought it was a great opportunity to raise money for a charity that did so much for my brother and it would also be a good way of keeping fit."

Vanessa's older brother, Hew, lived at Stockdale's, a Sale based charity offering care and respite, his whole life, until he died shortly before Christmas 2003, at the age of 24.

She continued: "They focus on giving a great quality of life, doing stuff with the kids and making sure they enjoy themselves. As a family, we've always been involved with Stockdale's so it's nice to give something back, to say thank you for giving my brother a great life."

Training for the event, due to take place on May 20, has already begun, as the ready runner has established a regime of running five miles, six days a week, with the aim of completing the marathon in under an hour.
