Walk for Life!

4:39pm Monday 19th February 2007

Marie Curie Cancer Care is looking for enthusiastic people to take part in its Devoted to Life walk in Liverpool on Sunday 1st April.

The Devoted to Life walk on Sunday 1st April, through Sefton Park and Clarkes Gardens offers a great opportunity to have a fantastic day out with friends and family, and at the same time help Marie Curie Cancer Care to raise vital funds to make a real and positive difference to the lives of cancer patients and their families.

Many walkers take part to remember a friend or loved one. Others simply enjoy a day's walking in a beautiful setting. All walkers will be given a helium balloon to walk with if they wish and those celebrating the life of a loved one will be able to write the name of the person they are walking in memory of on their balloon and carry it with them as they walk.

The walk begins at the Marie Curie Hospice and takes walkers through parks, woodlands and the beautiful Marie Curie Field of Hopes, full of daffodils planted in memory of loved ones by the local community.

Local Marie Curie Cancer Care fundraiser Hannah Taylor said "It's a lovely way to remember a loved one you may have lost whilst helping to raise money to help other families facing a similar situation. The Fields of Hope are really beautiful and knowing that each one was planted in memory of a loved one really adds to the lovely atmosphere on the walk."

The walk is open to everyone and participants are asked to give £10 towards registration and raise sponsorship, which will all go towards supporting the charity's work.

The money raised from the walk will help Marie Curie Cancer Care to provide high quality nursing, totally free, to give terminally ill people the choice of dying at home supported by their families.
