READERS have been in contact with crash stories after the Warrington Guardian reported on a slippery road in Birchwood.

The bend near the BP garage off Birchwood Way has apparently caught out a lot more drivers than just Keith Foxhall from Orford, who was featured in the original story.

The borough council skid tested the road recently after complaints, and results were bad enough to need intervention. Repair work is planned before the end of the financial year.

Former councillor David Eccles has been aware of the problem for the last two years and has reported it to the borough council and police yet nothing has yet happened.

Sue Levay is campaigning for road improvements after her son, 22-year-old Phillip, wrote off his BMW at the roundabout after losing control.

"I was totally heartbroken for him," said the Locking Stumps resident.

"The next thing you are going to have somebody killed there.

"You can replace your car but you can't replace your children."

Gillian Thomas from Poplar Grove, in Cadishead, said: "I had two kids in my car when it went off the road.

"I was lucky a couple came to my rescue and called the police. I think they should close the road."

Graham McCormack, aged 62, from Dunscar Close, Locking Stumps, came off the bend in his Toyota MR2.

He said: "I thought that there had been a diesel spillage as I was only travelling at a slow speed. I went back to Birchwood Golf Club that same morning and two other people there had suffered the same fate.

"There is definitely something wrong and as a matter of some urgency it needs to be looked at."

Birchwood Clr Jill Bolton is also taking up the case. Anyone with information can contact her on 838167.
