Tot finds 'hanged' dog dead in canal

A TODDLER was left distraught after seeing a dead dog floating in the canal by Sankey Valley Bridge when she went to feed the ducks on Easter Monday.

A friend of the two-year-old's father, who was part of the group that made the grim discovery, said it looked like the dog had been hanged before its body was dropped into the canal.

The man, who did not want to be named, said: "The dog was floating in the water by the reeds where the canal splits into two.

"It was a small, white dog that looked something like a small Collie or maybe a Staffordshire puppy.

"There was a black rope tied around the dog's neck so that it looked like someone had hanged it off the bridge and then cut the rope."

Chris Walkden, manager of the animal centre at the RSPCA on Slutchers Lane, said an inspector was sent out to see the dog but could not find its body.

"I'm speechless. It's absolutely disgusting that somebody could do something like this, words cannot describe it," she said.

"There is no need to do anything like this as anybody who doesn't want an animal can bring it to us or another rescue orgaisation.

"It frightens me that there are some sick people out there who are capable of doing such a thing."

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is asked to contact Warrington RSPCA on 632944.

the persons or person who has done this to that poor dog needs disemboweling with a small pen-knife.

This is very upsetting, hurting an animal is one of the signs of being a psychopath! As the article says there are plenty of organisations that take on unwanted animals so could this attack be because the dog was unwanted?
