Pack battle key against 'Cliff Thorburns of Super League'
Paul Cullen
Paul Cullen

WOLVES will face another pack battle on Saturday against a Harlequins team that Paul Cullen referred to as 'the Cliff Thorburns of Super League' last year.

Cullen compared Quins to the 1980 world snooker champion because of the Canadian's famous tactic of wearing his opponent down, earning him the nickname of 'The Grinder'.

Harlequins will similarly attempt to wear Wolves down by winning the tussle of the forwards when they visit The Halliwell Jones Stadium on Saturday, having successfully shut down the hosts' attack during a 17-4 away win last season.

Cullen said this week: "Any team coached by Brian McDermott will be a difficult team to handle in the middle of the field.

"They're a big unit who go forward with a purpose and half backs like Scott Hill and Danny Orr will need to be respected."

I know that Quins have a strong pack, but with Wire's forward strength and skill this season there is no way we should be out-muscled by any team in the competition.

I don't know about quins being cliff thorburn but was Paul Cullen expecting the chop from SM last night only he looked like he was auditioning for a part in Bugsy Malone on sky last night. Do you think he was wearing that suit for a bet!
