WARRIORS of Warrington Swimming Club's Tim Almond will be competing in the British Swimming Championships in Sheffield next week - even though he is still only 15 years old.
Almond, who will compete in the 100m breaststroke on Tuesday and the 200m breaststroke two days later, will be taking on the country's top swimmers with the event doubling up as trials for the British 2008 Olympic team.
Although he is not in contention for Beijing, Almond is regarded as a swimmer with potential to compete in London 2012 and a good performance next week may give him an outside chance of qualification for July's World Youth Championships in Mexico.
The Warringtonian is ranked as the best 200m breaststroke swimmer in the country in the 16 and under age group and 55th across all age groups.
He is also ranked fourth in the 16 and under category for the 100m breaststroke and 77th across all age groups.
Almond, whose qualification for the British Championships at the age of 15 has been described as a massive achievement' by Warriors' press officer Helen Thornton, will be joined in Sheffield by Jonathan Gatley.
The 18-year-old is still a member of the Warriors club but now trains at Loughborough University and will go into the 400m individual medley on April 3 ranked 96th in the country.
