YOUNG student Adam Longhurst is to pound the streets of the capital to raise money for a charity close to his heart.

The 19-year-old is hoping to raise at least £2,000 for Steps, a charity which supports children and their families affected by lower limb disorders.

Adam aims to raise the money by taking part in the world-famous London Marathon on Sunday April 13.

Adam comes from Alsager, and was born with Talipes Equinovarus, commonly known as club foot.

The heel on his right foot pointed away from his body, causing the foot to be twisted in towards the other foot.

"Fortunately after several operations and corrective treatment this was fixed at a relatively young age," said Adam.

"Even so I don't think anyone could have predicted that I would be running at marathon at the age of 19.

"Many people think conditions like club foot no longer exist, but nearly 1,000 children are born with the condition each year in the UK.

"This is only one of many lower limb conditions that affect children.

"Steps seeks to support children, adults and their families in accessing the best support and treatment for them to lead a normal life."

An estimated 100,000 childeren are born around the world with club foot each year.

Adam is studying education studies at Canterbury Christ Church University.

Before embarking on his university course he was an assistant Beaver Leader with Alsager Scout Group.
