Book store stays open
A TROUBLED national chain of book stores is set to keep its Northwich branch open.
The Works, which has a branch on Witton Street, went into administration after its profits dropped by 34 per cent last year.
The administrators Kroll announced this week that after a review, 85 stores are to close nationally - but the Northwich store has been told it will remain open after it wasn not named on the hit list.
Peter Saville, partner at Kroll's Corporate Advisory and Restructuring Group said: "Since the date of appointment, the business has generated significant levels of interest and we remain hopeful of completing a sale of the business as a going concern in the near future.
"In order to complete a sale, we have been undertaking a detailed review of the business as a means of creating a core sustainable business which will be an attractive investment opportunity to potential buyers.
"We appreciate that this is a difficult time for everyone involved and I would once again like to thank all employees for their continued support during the administration process."
The Works is the largest bargain book chain in the UK, with 317 stores, and it is expected that the 85 stores will be closed by next Thursday, resulting in the loss of 450 jobs.
