CONGLETON Guardian readers were woken at about 1am this morning by tremors from an earthquake centred on Market Rasen in Lincolnshire.
The quake measured 5.2 on the Richter scale, and was the biggest in Britain for 25 years.
The epicentre was near Market Rasen, but the effects of the quake were felt as far away as Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Southampton.
Cheshire Police received a number of calls from people woken by the tremor, but said there were no reports of injuries or damage.
