A MAN from Congleton is being held in police custody in connection with a murder inquiry.

Police have been granted an extension to question three men - two from Macclesfield and one from Congleton.

The murder inquiry was launched after the victim of a street attack died in hospital this morning.

The victim, 60-year-old John Leonard, died in intensive care in Macclesfield Hospital.

Police are urging businesses in the area of Shaw Street, Macclesfield, who may have CCTV cameras not to overide the recordings from December 7 as they could be vital evidence.

They should contact the investigation team on 0845 4580000 or Crimestoppers Anonymous on 0800 555111.
