CUT-PRICE tolls will be given to local residents when they cross the new £390 million Mersey Gateway - in 2014.
It follows a phenomenal response from 85 per cent of the public who took part in the summer's public consultation - all calling for a discount.
The exact figures have not yet been finalised but should be known by 2010 when the Government toll subsidy is confirmed.
Discounts for regular users or off-peak use have not been ruled out.
Homes and businesses throughout Halton will be receiving leaflets this week explaining how the project team is responding to feedback.
Council leader, Cllr Tony McDermott, said: "I'd like to thank everyone who responded to the consultation and am delighted to say that local people will have priority when it comes to tolling discounts.
"We know that some people are concerned about tolls, but most people understand tollling is the only way we can deliver the Mersey Gateway."
