A GRAFFITI artist is going to peculiar lengths to make sure their mark sticks out in Winsford.

The vandal has left a trail of pre-tagged stickers on pillars, electricity boxes and doors across the town leaving businesses and police baffled.

Jane Daniels, who works at Cheshire Building Society in Queens Parade, said: "I've seen them all over the town. We've had them on the back of our door and they're all over the parking bollards here.

"They look very neat. It's so peculiar - I've no idea why someone would go to those lengths."

Carol Lyon, manager of Winsford Shopping Centre, said: "It's a real nuisance because it's actually a lot harder to remove. We have to scrape the stickers off and it causes a mess."

Sgt Ian Wood, from Winsford Neighbourhood Policing Unit, believes the culprit, whose tag reads Mase', could be preparing the stickers at home to make it harder for police to catch them.

He said: "We're currently investigating a number of youths in relation to tagging and have confiscated pens from youths in the town.

"It's certainly a new method to me but it might be that this person has chosen to do it in this way as they can quickly stick them down and then run away.

"If they are just using pre tagged stickers we don't get the opportunity to see them doing the work."

Police are currently photographing tags across the town to build up a database and have into schools to look at art work that might identify vandals.

Sgt Wood said: "People might think this is art, but when it's not on a proper graffiti wall it's criminal damage."
