Ghostly sight delivers shock
A MILKMAN who saw a ghostly apparition on his early morning round was astonished when he returned to the dairy.
For a colleague at Sheldon's had seen exactly the same thing, at the same place, at the same time - nine months ago.
Now they are both convinced it really was a ghost.
Rick Jones, 59, was driving his milk float near Carrwood in Knutsford on Thursday last week at 3.30am when he saw a tall, grey figure rush across Chelford Road into a thicket.
"I thought someone had just burgled somewhere because the figure moved so fast," said Mr Jones.
"I couldn't tell whether it was a man or a woman, and it was bolt upright, whereas usually when people run they are bent over."
Mr Jones attempted to chase the figure in his milk float, but it had disappeared.
And there were no footprints in the grass, which was covered in dew.
In disbelief he searched the woods again after his milk round.
Still there was nothing.
"Something definitely ran across that road," said Mr Jones, who has been a milkman for 20 years.
He told all his colleagues who all had a good laugh.
But then Taz Oofthuizen, who covered the Carrwood round last year, finished his morning's work. "People were saying Rick had seen a ghost," he said.
"I asked him if he had seen it near the trees. He thought I knew and was winding him up so I told him I had seen the same thing."
Mr Oofthuizen, 33, of Westfield Drive, had only been a milkman a short time when he saw a tall, grey, fast-moving figure in his headlights on a dark winter morning.
He left his float and searched for the figure with a torch.
"There was nothing. No tracks," he said. "But I didn't say anything because I thought people would take the mickey."
Mr Jones, of Northwich Road, said last week he was happy to continue delivering milk to Carrwood. "I wasn't frightened," he said.
Not far away from the ghostly sightings is Booths Hall, where an old male gardener is said to haunt the cellar.
Could he have been out running an errand?

I once saw a bearded fella walk into a house off Chelford Road. He was wearing a tweed hat and a red jacket and seemed to be walking a golden retriver! One minute he was there the next minute he was gone!

Just to put Jamie's mind to rest, because I know he gets a little scared where ghosts are concerned, but that was my father and not some strange apparition... or was it?
