TWO youngsters from Warrington travelled to Washington DC during their summer holidays to take part in a world youth leadership programme.
Sam Ford and Nicole Whiston were part of a select group of young people from across the globe, picked to take part in a world leadership congress event organised by the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY).
They joined other young people from around the world for the 10-day convention.
Sam, who lives in Gorse Covert and attends Birchwood High School, said: "I was at school one day and someone in assembly asked if anyone would like to take part in HOBY. I was a bit apprehensive about taking part but I enjoyed it."
The pair, both aged 15, jetted out to America in July and spent time with people from countries including Malawi, Ethiopia and Canada.
Nicole, a student at William Beamont Community High School, lives in Orford. She added: "It was amazing; it was a life changing experience. I have learned a lot from the other people there that I would not have had the chance to otherwise."
The pair will be guest speakers at the first meeting following the summer break, of the North Cheshire Speakers Club, which takes place on Tuesday, September 11, at the De Vere Daresbury Park Hotel.
The meeting is open to everyoneand is ideal for anyone interested in improving their presentation skills. The group is also particularly keen for young professional people to attend. The evening starts at 7.45pm prompt.
