BIDDULPH motorists who park on yellow lines face a crackdown from October.

Clear Streets officers are due to go on patrol across the Moorlands to enforce yellow line parking regulations.

The district council is working with the county council to take on the enforcement of the regulations from the autumn.

Parking Board chairman Robin Studd was eager to stress the initiative was not about raising money but keeping streets clear of inconsiderate parkers.

"Irresponsible and illegal parking can block the streets for ambulances, the police and fire engines," he said.

"Poor parking can kill if they can't get through.

"It also creates a hazard for pregnant mums, children and disabled people - blocking pavements and forcing them into the road.

"The Clear Street operation is there only to help the community.

"If you don't park illegally and irresponsibly you won't get a ticket.

"This isn't about raising funds to plug the gap left in Council Taxes.

"All the charges are ring fenced to pay for running the Clear Street operation.

"If there is any surplus it will go on improving transport in the areas where the charges were raised."

Motorists who flout parking regulations will be fined £30 if paid within 14 days, rising to £60 if paid within a month.
