CHILDREN visiting England from Belarus will be enjoying a morning of fun at Partington and Carrington Children's Centre on Wednesday August 8.
The visit has been organised as part of a month-long schedule of activities organised for young people affected by the Chernobyl disaster.
The children, who are staying with residents from the area, will be participating in arts and crafts activities and using the soft play area and the sensory room at the centre. Elizabeth Berry, a first-time host who helped to organise the event, said: "This will be a learning curve for us as we have organised lots of activities for them and we only hope they will be able to cope with it all!"
Luckily, the centre provides opportunities to both relax and play, and Elizabeth suggests, "if the children need a break, the sensory room will provide them with time to lie down and chill out".
The visit, organised by the Chernobyl Children's Project, provides the young people of Belarus with a chance to escape the rise in the level of radiation which occurs over the hot and dry summer. The project also aims to provide a boost in health for them, as many will be in remission from illnesses caused by the disaster and have little access to food and water uncontaminated by radiation in their home country.
