BRIAN Simpson has repeated his request for safety assurances after the pilots union stepped into the Ryanair row.

Mr Simpson, MEP and Great Sankey resident, has written to the low-cost airline about its flights to Speke airport which pass over Warrington.

He got involved after it was revealed that planes belonging to Ryanair were involved in low-flying safety scares over Ireland last year.

Mr Simpson has reiterated his requests for assurances after the British pilots' association got involved and said the incidents show how pressure on pilots is a lethal cocktail'.

The association blamed new intensive work rotas and incentive-based pay schemes.

A Ryanair statement said the company "prioritises the safety-first option, regardless of schedules, arrival times or turnaround times".
