Charity launched to help sufferers
A NEW charity has been launched in Warrington for anyone with an acquired brain injury, their carers, families and friends.
The Warrington branch of Headway was officially launched at a reception at the Paddington House Hotel. Mayor of Warrington, Clr Linda Dirir, and her consort, Alin, attended the launch and, along with 80 other guests, listened to four speakers talk on the subject of acquired brain injury.
The north west of England has the highest incidence of acquired brain injury in the UK.
Acquired brain injury can be caused by road traffic accidents and falls and accidents at home or at work, a major stroke, a haemorrhage or physical assault.
Young men, aged 18 to 25, are those most likely to be affected by the injury.
Anyone interested in joining the group can call 820998 for more information.

Good luck with your new branch of Headway. My branch is Headway Hurstwood Park in Newick, Sussex and if it was'nt for them I would have had no one when I was recovering from a Brain Tumour removal some 15 months ago. The NHS down in Sussex and especially Eastbourne is next to useless and dump the responsability of care onto charities like Headway. They made a complete mess of my discharge from Hurstwood Park Neurological Hospital and it was a year before it came to light what had happened. Things are now being sorted out by my MP Nigel Waterson who has shown great interest in the problems suffered by ABI's especially after the revelations by the TV program Dispatches who critisised the care given by the local Trusts in the Eastbourne area.Public awareness is a real problem and Headway Hurstwood Park is making great efforts to make even GP's aware of the after effects of a Brain injury.
