COUNTRYSIDE manager David Kitching received an artistic retirement gift from Astbury Mere Trust.

Rob Minshull, chairman of the trust, presented Mr Kitching with a picture of a sunset over the mere he had painted.

The presentation took place at a special social event at Astbury Mere Country Park to mark David's retirement as Cheshire County Council countryside manager.

"Since the trust's inception 20 years ago David has been very helpful, giving sound advice and wise counsel," said Mr Minshull, who thanked Mr Kitching for all his efforts on the trust's behalf.

"The trust is very well served by countryside ranger Matthew Axford and by countryside officer Julie Molyneux.

"George Broughton has taken over the reins from David, and the trust looks forward to working closely with him."
